Time To Talk

Hello everyone!
Today I heard that it is "Time to Talk" day. This really struck a cord with me. Talking is so important for our mental health and raising awareness of the need to talk to others is a really encouraging step in the right direction.
Personally I feel like I am hearing far more about mental health issues than I ever remember hearing before. It seems so often in the news and media about mental health disorders, anxiety, stress, depression... The list goes on. Even if you do not suffer with a mental health condition yourself the chances are that you know and love someone who does.
I have seen first hand how debilitating mental health disorders can be, our minds are amazing and wonderful, but also extremely powerful. As most of us know too well, our mental health can have such a massive impact on our physical health too. Although not always a solution on its own, talking is an incredible way of helping us to stay mentally well.
Anyone who knows me will appreciate that I actually spend almost all my life talking! So for a rare moment or two, instead of talking, I have been thinking...
Talking is wonderful... but are there other ways we can help ourselves to become well mentally, physically and emotionally?
Well I want to share with you some things that help me when I feel overwhelmed:
Being in a physically calm place
Music
Sunshine
The sound of the sea
Walking (on a windy day)
Candles
Colouring
Writing
Sometimes it is the simplest things in life that help. None of these things are groundbreaking and certainly nothing new. Some days I sit in my therapy room, put some chilled harp music on, light my favourite candle - there is nothing like just sitting, breathing and watching a little candle flickering. Life has become so complicated, so busy and so difficult, that I feel we would all do good to strip things back a little and focus on some time out for ourselves.
Well I think I've done enough talking for now :). Hopefully you've enjoyed this little insight into how I take some time to relax and unwind. Another thing (which you might expect) just before I go... There is nothing like a massage to relax me - soft lighting, calm decor, gentle music, the power of touch... The whole experience is a pure bubble of calm, so if this sounds like the ultimate relaxation you are craving, please get in touch.
Take care all and keep on talking!
