Good Morning!
This week I have been thinking a lot about relaxation and stress relief and wanted to share with you some of the interesting links between massage therapy and relaxation.
Recently I feel there has been an increasing focus on stress, anxiety, depression and general mental health and wellbeing. Only in the last few weeks ITV has launched it’s own mental health campaign - “Britain Get Talking”. Whilst this is a positive step in the right direction, we still have a way to go to improve general mental health .
With high stress and anxiety levels still prevalent both in every day life and in the work place this got me wondering about ways to help reduce these high levels? We all know that anxiety, stress and depression are really bad for not just our mental health but our physical health too. Talking is an amazing way to work through mental health and related issues, but you might be surprised to know how many psychological benefits are accessible through massage therapy!
Many consider the physical benefits of massage, the reduction of “muscle knots” in their back, neck and shoulders. Obviously this is a significant benefit to massage therapy but there are even more psychological benefits which are often overlooked.
One of the most positive effects of massage therapy is RELAXATION. How much better do you feel when you have taken some time out to slow down, breathe, relax and renew yourself? The power of touch initiates a known ‘relaxation response’ in the body. This relaxation response can help a number of factors associated with mental health. It can have a stabilising effect on anxiety, which can help lead to it’s prevention. As complementary therapists we cannot cure, but have you ever heard the saying “prevention is better than cure”? When the relaxation response is initiated often through regular massage treatments it can lead to reduced stress levels and I believe that high stress levels can be a pre-cursor to anxiety.
Does this sound like you?
We would all benefit from some relaxation from time to time so contact us today to book your time out massage treatment and enjoy the ‘relaxation response’ for yourself!
Have a wonderful day!
